Capture Cards

This page let's you choose which TV cards RikPVR should make use of and in which order. By default RikPVR will make use of all DVB-T cards on your system. Simply untick the "Enable Card" box for any cards which shouldn't be used.

You can also use the increase and decrease priority buttons to adjust which order cards will be used.

Location

Location

The location page allows you to indicate where you live. RikPVR uses this information to look up details for your area. Your location is not stored by RikWare.

You do not need to provide a location, however if you don't you may need to provide extra information about what frequencies TV is broadcast on in your area.
Edit

Scanning

The RikPVR wizard will scan the TV broadcast to discover which channels are available.

Scan Type

Scanning Type

RikPVR offers three scanning methods - Express, Full and Manual. Some of these methods may be unavailable depending on whether you provided your location and what information is available for that area.

  • Express Scan
    • Express scan is the recommended method if available. It is the quickest since it only scans the specific frequencies for your area.
  • Full Scan
    • A full scan will scan all frequencies for your country. This takes considerably longer than express scan but may find some additional channels if information for your location is out of date or unavailable.
  • Manual Scan
    • Manual scan allows you to provide the scanning frequencies yourself. This is necessary if you did not provide a location but can also be useful for rescanning missed channels.

Once you select a scanning type hit the next button to start the scan. If the scan does not find all your channels you can simply hit back, choose another scanning type and retry.

Once you hit next the scanning page will appear. This page will show you the results of the scan as it proceeds. Once the scan has completed it will show a list of all channels it found. If it has missed some channels either use the rescan button or hit back and choose another scanning type.

Data Sources

TV Guide Data Sources

RikPVR requires a source of TV guide data to display. This data can either be read from the broadcast signal (if available) or provided by an XMLTV guide.

The broadcast TV guide is the easiest to use. Simply select "Broadcast TV Guide" from the list and RikPVR will start scanning for guide data.

If you'd prefer to use an XMLTV guide you will need to provide the address of that guide. Depending on your location, RikPVR may provide a list of suitable XMLTV guides for you to use. If so, simply click on the guide you wish to use. Otherwise select "User supplied source" and you will be prompted for the address of the guide.

Once a data source is selected RikPVR will retrieve the information - either from the broadcast, or by reading the XMLTV data. RikPVR will also search www.rikpvr.com for suitable logos to use for your TV channels.

Channel Mapping

Image

Automatic Channel Mapping

At this stage RikPVR has scanned a set of broadcast channels from your TV card and has gathered information about the channels in your guide. Now these two types of channels must be related so that when you set a program in the guide to be recorded RikPVR knows which broadcast channel to use.

RikPVR will attempt to use your location information to automatically map the channels for you (see right). If this fails or you wish to customise the guide channels you will need to map the channels manually. Select "Configure Channels" and hit next. The next page will look like this:

Channel Mapping Configuration

This page lists all of your guide channels on the left and the details of the channel on the right. Simply select the channels one by one and adjust their settings.

Make sure to select a broadcast channel from the drop down box which will be used to record any shows on that guide channel. You can also use this screen to provide your own logo, hide some channels or adjust the channel name.

Recorder Setup

Recorder Setup

The final step of the wizard is to set up the RikPVR recorder. The RikPVR recorder runs in the background all of the time, automatically starting when your computer does.

The setup page has 4 settings:
  • The default folder to save recordings in (individual recordings can be pointed at other folders)
  • What type of file to save recordings as (see the FAQ for more information on what recording type to use)
  • The default buffers for recordings. These buffers set how much space before and after the show RikPVR should record. This allows for shows that start early or run overtime.

Edit

Setup Complete

This completes the RikPVR setup wizard. Once you hit "Finish" RikPVR will finalise the setup. If you have chosen the Broadcast Guide Source RikPVR will start scanning for the actual guide data at this point. A window will appear which will let you monitor its progress.

If you have any problems, questions or suggestions for this setup or any other aspect of RikPVR please contact the team either via the contact form (http://www.rikpvr.com/Contact.aspx) or on the DVBOwners forums (http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showforum=15).
